EAST BAY CHANNEL CHURCH | LEAD PASTOR

Pastor Jonathan Wong and Jojo along with their two girls Abigail and Tabitha loves God and loves the Church. He holds a Master of Worship Studies degree at Robert E. Webber Institute for Worship Studies and is a graduate of Gateway Baptist Theological Seminary of the Southern Baptist Convention (formerly Golden Gate Baptist Theological Seminary) with his Master of Divinity with a concentration in Theological-Historical Studies.

In 2013, Jonathan along with 8 other team members was a part of a church planting movement that started Channel Church, a member church in the Southern Baptist Convention. They began bringing worship and the Word of God into the UC Berkeley Campus weekly which soon became a multi-cultural church serving the city of Berkeley and the surrounding area. In 2017, Jonathan was formally called to co-pastor Channel Church, serving the Cantonese congregation at the time.

After a season of growth for the church in Berkeley, a renewed calling to invest in the lives of believers and those who not yet know the Lord all around the Bay Area, Channel Church recommitted itself to becoming a multi-church network with various simple churches focused on disciple making as well as a traditional church model that serves those who are Cantonese speakers in the San Leandro-Hayward-Castro Valley corridor.

Preparation was underway in 2019, and in 2020 East Bay Channel Church (Channel East Bay) was launched with full blessing of the network in Castro Valley California. From 2020-the present day, Channel East Bay has met numerous challenges, yet by the grace of God the church is pressing on and meeting the needs of the community as well as expanding the reach for sharing the gospel.

Pastor Jonathan is dedicated to the kingdom work and continues to lead Channel East Bay in guiding the flock to walking intimately with Christ and with one-another. He also holds strong to his commitment to the Word and has continued his studies in a Master of Theology program at Gateway Seminary with the intention of obtaining a PhD to better serve the Kingdom and shape current and future church leaders.
